A crossword solver for 6 letters
This is the Crossword Cracker solver set up for 6-letter answers. It's built for missing letters: there's one square for each letter of the word, so you can copy what's in your grid straight across. It searches 9,189 6-letter words and only ever shows ones that are the right length.
How to use it
- Type each letter you know into the square where it sits in the grid.
- Leave the other squares blank. Press the space bar to skip one.
- If you know a letter is in the word but not where, add it to Also contains. Letters you've ruled out go in Doesn't contain.
- Press Search. Use Copy link to save or share the result.
Look at the ending first
A lot of six-letter answers are a shorter word with something on the end. If the clue is in the past tense, try E and D in the last two squares. If it names a person or a tool that does a job, try -ER. If it's plural, the last square is very likely S - 27% of the six-letter words here end that way.
Filling in the ending before you search turns a list of hundreds into one you can read at a glance.

Frequently asked questions
How many 6-letter words are there?
This solver's word list has 9,189 6-letter words, covering British, American, Australian and Canadian spellings. Other dictionaries give slightly different totals, depending on what they count as a word.
What if I don't know where any of the letters go?
Leave the squares empty and type the letters into "Also contains". You'll get every 6-letter word that has all of them, wherever they fall. "Doesn't contain" rules letters out.
What if I'm not sure how long the answer is?
Use the main crossword solver, which takes a pattern of any length. Or count the squares in the grid and pick the word finder for that length.
